In enterprise in education one of the main underpinning principles of learning and teaching that is gaining support is for the pupils to gather knowledge, where through teacher engagement of personal discovery, and demonstrate how they can apply that knowledge in other situations – a different context. The pupils are encouraged to make independent decisions, be creative, justify their choices, transfer abstract into concrete…..Bloom’s taxonomy shows this higher order of thinking. An updated Revised Bloom’s Taxonomy clarifies it even simpler.

There seems to be a great focus around the world at present to address the pupils are disengaging with education in terms of economic and education impact. This interim report from DEMOS reports back on some work that is being done in England. More research is being carried out this year. Many of these people are named either as NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training – UK except Scotland) More Choices More Chances in Scotland.
Metrocarried an update on the numers of people that are now in this classification.

Every now and again we all need something to pick us up and inspire us – I have found this site Walk the Talk a long while ago and everyday have a thought coming in to my desk top..and sometimes a video clip. Used this with the pupils to make an enterprise business with Inspirational Classroom Posters A4 and small Inspirational Thought Cards.

Knowledge and understanding are not the same. Too often we give students the knowledge but ask them to show an understanding of it and they find it very hard. David Perkins offers some thoughts on knowledge and understanding and makes reference to supply and demand. This short video clip gives food for thought and if we take it into an enterprise context of learning it begins to chime with the ethos of teaching and learning that we see when teachers engage with enterprise.
